Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published in 1964. In this book, Charlie Bucket and his grandfather pay a visit to the world-famous chocolatier owned by Willy Wonka. The narrative was an instant hit, and it was adapted into several films. The first is the 1971 Gene Wilder classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp, was up next.
That brings us to 2021 when the third live-action film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic novel will be announced. Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming prequel picture, Wonka, will provide viewers with a glimpse inside the chocolatier’s past before he became Willy Wonka.
In this article, we’ll summarize what little we know about the movie thus far. Who plays the hero in the movie? Who is responsible for the direction and production of this? When will the movie be shown in theaters? The solutions are listed below.
Wonka 2023 Release Date
On March 17, 2023, theaters were supposed to start showing the new Willy Wonka movie. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed the return of moviegoers and caused production delays in Hollywood, so the premiere was postponed. The release date for Wonka is set for December 15, 2023.

Where Can We Watch Wonka?
Warner Bros. released all of its films in cinemas and on HBO Max simultaneously in 2020. In the latter half of 2021, the company switched to a 45-day release window, during which time the movies were shown only in theaters. The company has gradually returned to business as usual as of 2022. It takes at least three months for a movie to reach Max. We can expect to wait until Spring of 2024 to be able to stream Wonka.
Where does Wonka’s Premise Come From?
Wonka’s backstory is shrouded in mystery. The film will serve as a prequel, expanding on Willy’s origin story and detailing his rise to fame as a chocolatier. However, until a teaser trailer is released, we have little to go on.
Who will Play Willy Wonka?
Timothée Chalamet will play the title role in the next film. The young actor had a breakout in 2021, appearing in such films as Dune: Part One as Paul Atreides, The French Dispatch as Zeffirelli, and Don’t Look Up as Quentin.
Tom Holland was also considered for the role of Wonka before Warner Bros. decided on Timothée Chalamet. Keegan-Michael Key, who stars alongside Chalamet in the film Follow, has gushed about his performance.
