Brad Pitt is being sued because he is accused of stealing from the famous Chateau Miraval farm in Provence, France. Angelina Jolie’s company, Nouvel, says that Pitt did a “blatant money grab” by taking money from the farm and putting it toward personal projects instead.
The couple filed for divorce in 2016 because of claims of abuse and now have to fight in court. Nouvel says that Pitt set up a plan to take control of Chateau Miraval while ignoring the needs of the rosé maker. Pitt’s lawyers stayed silent, while Nouvel’s legal team highlighted extravagant spending and lack of viticultural commitment. The fight shows how hard it is to be in charge of the renowned vineyard.
Brad Pitt Accused Of Looting Provence Vineyard
After looking for years, the couple bought the farm 2008 for €25m. There, in 2014, they got married. With the help of Marc Perrin, a Rhône winemaker, the farm became a well-known rosé producer. But things have gone from bad to worse.
Jolie’s company, Nouvel, says that Pitt acted like a “petulant child” and made a “blatant money grab” at the property. Pitt “stole” the Chateau Miraval vineyard in Provence by spending millions of dollars on a new recording studio and improvements to the swimming pool.

The two stars filed for divorce in 2016 after Jolie accused Pitt of a drunken attack on her and the couple’s children while on a private trip to the US. Pitt has said that the claims are false. Nouvel, the company through which Jolie used to own a piece of the French winery, told a court in California on Monday that Pitt and his partners owe it more than $350 million.
The company said they “did more and more outrageous things to keep control of Miraval” while “robbing the rosé producer of its assets.” The lawyers for Nouvel also say that Pitt has “masterminded a so far successful plan to seize de facto control of Chateau Miraval. Pitt is accused of making it impossible for Shefler’s Stoli to run the company by not putting neutral people on the board of the Luxembourg-based company that runs the winery.

The lawyers for Pitt refused to say anything. Pitt also says that he still owns 60% of the land and only “nominally” gave Jolie 10% of it in 2013. Nouvel’s legal team said Jolie had initially tried to sell her share of Miraval to Pitt but walked away because he made the deal contingent on her signing a non-disparagement agreement.
They also said that Pitt had spent “millions on vanity projects,” such as spending more than $1 million fixing up his swimming pool, building and tearing down a staircase four times, and fixing up his recording studio.
They also said that Pitt spent “nearly a million euros a year constantly rebuilding stone walls using stonemasons from Croatia” and nearly €3 million on “garment work” and other unnamed costs. The lawyers for Nouvel said that Pitt had not been very interested in viticulture. “Pitt is an actor; he doesn’t make wine. They wrote, “He sells dreams, not dirt and grapes.”
