Rhys Frake-Waterfield pens and helms his first feature picture, a slasher called “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” set to be released in 2023. Craig David Dowsett plays Winnie-the-Pooh and Chris Cordell plays Piglet in this horror adaptation of A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories, which also features Nikolai Leon, Maria Taylor, Natasha Rose Mills, Amber Doig-Thorne, and Danielle Ronald.

When Christopher Robin, now an adult, returns to the Hundred Acre Wood years after going for college, he finds Pooh and Piglet, who have since become feral and bloodthirsty murderers, terrorizing a group of young university women and himself.

On May 24, 2022, when the film’s announcement was made, it was met with mixed reactions due to the character’s reputation as a “beloved childhood icon” in the media. As of January 1, 2022, the Winnie-the-Pooh book from 1926 is considered public domain in the United States.

This means that anyone is free to use or reference the original book series works without The Walt Disney Company’s permission, so long as they don’t steal elements from the company’s media franchise based on the book.

When will Production Begin on “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2”?

Whether or not Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was one of the most successful releases of the year is debatable. While some, like Collider’s Ross Bonaime, were turned off by the film (he wrote that it “overstays its welcome before the opening credits”), fans of the “so bad it’s good” school of criticism saw the Rhys Frake-Waterfield live-action horror movie as a classic in the making.

The film’s restricted theatrical distribution still earned $6 million at the box office, which is impressive given the film’s cheap budget. It’s official: Frake-Waterfield is hard at work on a sequel, and the baddest bear in town will be back in action this Fall.

It has been said that the budget is much bigger, allowing the returning director to dump even more buckets of blood on the Hundred Acre Wood. However, no storyline specifics have been revealed as of yet. The sequel will begin filming this fall, but the plot is still a secret. The budget for this picture is set to be far higher than the last one.

In addition to its debut in the United States, the next slasher atrocity will be available for viewing pleasure in France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany. It is assumed that the sequel will focus on Christopher Robin’s (Nikolai Leon) transition back into society after he and Pooh (Craig David Dowsett) had survived in the forest.

Frake-Waterfield plans to cash in on the popularity of classic children’s books that have entered the public domain with more than only Blood and Honey 2. Already, the director has written and produced Bambi: The Reckoning and is attached to both direct and produce Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare.

Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, and Owl are a quintet of anthropomorphic animals that became friends with young Christopher Robin in the Hundred Acre Wood many years ago. Christopher had to leave them when he went out to college and was on his own for the first time.

Christopher, now an adult, and his fiancee Mary travel back to the Hundred Acre Wood to visit his childhood buddies, but they are all gone. Christopher stays despite Mary’s advice to leave and is confronted by Piglet, who is responsible for Mary’s murder via suffocation using a chain. Christopher, terrified, tries to flee but is ambushed and dragged back into the woods by Pooh.

Pooh and Piglet discover the cabin as night falls and abduct Lara while she relaxes in the pool. Lara has her gag put on by Piglet while Pooh smashes his automobile into her skull. After Maria and Jess discover Lara’s body, they hear the commotion and rush back to the cabin to alert Alice and Zoe.

To prove its claim to the “so naughty it’s good” category, “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” depicts what would happen if Winnie-the-Pooh turned into a cruel killer with his face-devouring friend, Piglet.

As Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) returns home from college to find that his boyhood friends have become human-hating murderers, this English production making its way to 1,500 theaters in America this week aims to take the piss out of one’s nostalgia for their childhood.

The funniest part is when Leatherface or Michael Myers should be on screen and instead, you see Pooh in red overalls and a rubbery mask frozen in a kind of honeysuckle grin. According to the audience’s muted laughter, those revelations are the film’s most reliable sources of laughter, and I have to concur.

Although watching Pooh and Piglet (Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell, respectively) represented as towering psychopaths in Frake-Waterfield is always a delight, the film leaves you wishing it had made more of an effort.

Despite its attempts at simplification, “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” fails to stand out as anything beyond snarky IP comedy relief. If you take off all the Pooh and Piglet references, what you’re left with is a generic stalker film that uses its flat characters as comic relief for bloody moments it can’t afford.
