Some viewers were caught off guard by Rin’s death. At first glance, it appears that Kakashi murdered her, but the ending reveals otherwise. Kakashi and Rin were teammates in the Third Shinobi World War. If Kakashi truly believed their enemy to be his enemy, why would he kill Rin?
Why did Kakashi Kill Rin?
Despite first impressions, Kakashi did not kill Rin. However, there is more to the incident than meets the eye. Fans of the Naruto franchise claim that Rin actually begged Kakashi to kill her so that they could protect the hamlet of Konoha.
After having a three-tailed beast implanted within her, Rin made the conscious decision to not let the beast destroy her village. But she couldn’t kill herself, and Kakashi didn’t want her to. Ultimately, Rin gave her life as a sacrifice.

How did Rin Take her Own Life?
Kakashi didn’t want to murder Rin, so she impaled herself on his Chidori (his concentrated lightning chakra) during the Third Shinobi World War and he didn’t see it coming until it was too late. She passed away in front of Kakashi, who later passed out and got post-traumatic stress disorder. Fans claim Kakashi was haunted by his mother’s death long after she had passed away.
Rin’s best friend, Obito, was trapped in a cave and watched the events unfold helplessly. Once he was no longer restrained, Obito fought and defeated the enemy ninja that he, Rin, and Obito had been assigned to kill.
Obito had grown in love with Rin and even though she didn’t know it, her death was devastating for him. After Rin’s death, Obito promised to create a world where he and Rin could be together again, and Rin supposedly oversaw her best friend in the afterlife.
