In the show’s first scene, the bodies of Josiah Landesman and Brenda Lewis, who used to work for him, are found on the grounds of the closed Blenheim Vale Boys’ School. Morse thinks Landesman was also involved in the death of Peter Williams, a student whose body was never found and whose death has never been explained.

He tells his old friend, DS Peter Jakes, that he will keep looking for Williams’ body. Thursday runs into a former friend, who tells him to stop looking into Blenheim Vale. Thursday sends Jim Strange to Kidlington after learning that his family might be in danger.

Morse keeps digging in the schoolyard to find Peter Williams’ body. Morse finally finds Peter Williams’ dead body, ending his search. In the last scene, we find out that Thursday was shot, so we don’t know what will happen to him. Meanwhile, Joan and Jim Strange leave town.
