Lee returned to Hong Kong in 1992 after finishing high school to watch her sisters compete in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant. There, she performed Run to You by Whitney Houston at the 12th Annual New Talent Singing Awards, where she placed second. The next day, she received a contract offer from Capital Artists.
Her first recordings were included in various compilations, including Red Hot Hits ’93 Autumn Edition, where they were released to the public. She debuted as a solo artist in 1994 with Fancy Pie Records’ releases Love from Now On and Promise Me, both of which were sung in Mandarin.
In 1995, she released both her third Mandarin album, Woman in Love, and her first English language cover album, Brave Enough to Love. Coco Lee, Lee’s 1996 album, was the best-selling record in Asia that year after she secured a contract with Sony Music Entertainment. In 1997, she released two albums, one in Mandarin called Sincere and another in Cantonese simply titled. One million copies of the 1998 Mandarin album Di Da Di were quickly purchased after its debut.

Both “Colors” and “The Answer” were featured in the Chinese film Bishonen, both taken from her subsequent album Sunny Day. For the Mandarin dub of Mulan, Walt Disney Pictures hired her in 1998 to perform the song “Reflection” and provide the voice of Fa Mulan.
