They will never, ever, ever do a podcast together. According to reports, Meghan Markle asked music artist Taylor Swift to appear on her podcast, “Archetypes,” but Swift declined.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Swift turned down the invitation and didn’t even bother to react personally, instead having a representative turn down the offer in what might be perceived as a slight to the Duchess of Sussex.
Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, announced earlier this month that they had ended their three-year, $20 million contract with Spotify, which aired her podcast. There will be no second chances.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been extremely active recently thanks to the many initiatives undertaken by their respective Archewell Inc. charities. Among these were a new podcast hosted by Markle and a multi-year partnership with music streaming service Spotify.
It premiered on August 23, 2022, with the title Archetypes, but was axed after just one season. Markle invited a wide variety of visitors to join her as she traced the evolution of gendered labels applied to women. Now we know that Taylor Swift was offered a spot on the show, but she politely declined through a spokesperson.
Despite Archetypes’ victory at the People’s Choice Awards for Best Podcast in Los Angeles in June, the show was ultimately discontinued. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been forced to abandon projects like this before, so it’s not a new occurrence.
The duo apparently has had trouble producing shows and material for Netflix since establishing a commercial partnership with the streaming service in September 2020. There is a common pattern of “big idea, subpar execution,” as one insider.

It was reported on Saturday that:
“Meghan would often ask for changes late in the editing process, at times recruiting senior Spotify executives, including then-chief content officer Dawn Ostroff, to call producers and push them to make changes.”
Spotify executives apparently also became impatient with Archewell’s lengthy process of coming up with a concept for “Archetypes” and assembling a production crew.
Meanwhile, Harry was at a loss for what to talk about on his own podcast. According to rumors, Netflix has no plans to extend its contract with Archewell Productions beyond 2025.
