On January 4, 2004, Victor Wembanyama was born in France. His mother is a basketball coach and a former player and his Congolese father was a triple jump, high jump and long jump competitor in track and field.
He has a younger brother who played youth basketball and handball and an elder sister who is a professional basketball player.
Victor began his athletic career as a goalkeeper for the football team and trained in judo before moving to basketball, which he picked up from his mother. He joined the juvenile program of Nanterre 92 at age 10, attracting attention for his unusual height and started playing for Entente Le Chesnay Versailles at age 7.
His younger brother Oscar has played basketball and handball at the juvenile level and his older sister Eve is a professional basketball player. Both his grandmother, Marie Christine and his grandpa, Michel de Fautereau were professional basketball players.
