Big Pokey pἀssed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 in Beaumont, Texas at the age of 45 years and the news of his deἀth was confirmed on his official Instagram account.
The rapper from the Houston region reportedly experienced a medical problem while playing at a nearby pub. After being brought to a hospital, he later dἰed. His cause of deἀth is still a mystery.
On Sunday, June 18, 2023 morning, Pour09 Bar updated Instagram with a message offering prayers to Big Pokey and his family.
Sylvester Turner, mayor of the city of Houston, tweeted, “The City of Houston and I extend our prayers and condolences to our own Screwed Up Click legendary rapper #BigPokey family and friends.”

Who is Big Pokey?
Milton Powell well known by his stage name Big Niggy and was a Houston, Texas-born American rapper who dἰed on June 18, 2023. He was one of the founding members of Screwed Up Click and was known for his chopped-and-screwed music.

Big Pokey Journey From the Underground to the Mainstream
Early in the 1990s, Big Pokey started rapping with Houston producer DJ Screw, recording songs on a number of DJ Screw’s mixtapes. A pivotal album in chopped and screwed hip hop, DJ Screw’s mixtape “June 27th Freestyle” included Big Pokey.
Early in 1999, Hardest Pit in the Litter, his debut studio album, was released. The following year, Pokey made a comeback with D-Game 2000, a new collection of 808-driven midtempo beats that also featured a number of his Houston compatriots as guests.
He worked with the Wreckshop Wolfpack on Tha Collabo in 2001 and he subsequently released another solo album, Da Sky’s Da Limit in 2002. A portion of Pokey’s song “Who Dat Talkin Down” was included in the HBO series Entourage’s premiere episode in 2004.
Pokey appeared on the Paul Wall song “Sittin’ Sidewayz” in 2005, which reached its top position of #93 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
