Who is Eddie Maine?
In 1993, Ned Ashton adopted the stage name Eddie Maine in order to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star. Newcomers to the show may wonder, “Who?” It saddens me a little that they don’t know about one of the greatest love stories to ever happen in Port Charles (and Brooklyn, New York). But we’ll do our best to tell you the tale in terms even a child might understand.
Ned Doesn’t Dress up as anyone but Eddie Maine when he Performs at the Nurses Ball
Although Wally Kurth, who plays Eddie Maine on “General Hospital,” no longer appears on the show frequently, Ned Ashton still appears as the character on occasion, most notably at the annual Nurses Ball (via SoapHub).
In 1995, Eddie Maine’s band, the Idle Rich, played “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” at the Nurses Ball; in 2000, they played “Simply Irresistible.” Ned also performed under his alias in 1997, 1998, and 1999. After a hiatus from 2002 to 2012, “General Hospital” brought back the Nurses Ball in 2013.
Eddie Maine sang “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth” by Meat Loaf and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Ned and his wife, Olivia Quartermaine, did dance performances from 2017 until 2020.
Several real-life celebrities, like Richard Simmons, Mario Lopez, Carla Hall from “The Chew,” and Chandra Wilson from “Grey’s Anatomy,” have reportedly made appearances at The Nurses Ball, as shown in Soaps.

As Eddie Maine, Ned Ashton led a Double Existence
According to Soap Central from 1993, Ned Ashton tried to make it big in the music industry under the alias Eddie Maine. One night, Kurth’s ex-wife Rene Sofer, who played record producer Lois Cerullo, saw him perform in the city and was impressed.
Lois saw Eddie’s potential and wanted to make him famous, so the two of them hit it off right away. Inconveniently for Ned, who was being blackmailed into marrying Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans) of Port Charles, “Eddie” fell for the tough Brooklyn-bred Lois. Nevertheless, despite Lois’s ignorance, she fell in love with “Eddie” and they married, despite the fact that he was not Eddie Maine.
