Along with former President Donald Trump, an aide has been charged with mishandling national security documents. Walt Nauta, a veteran of the United States Navy, served as Mr. Trump’s White House military attendant and later became his assistant at his Florida mansion.
Mr. Trump described Mr. Nauta as a “wonderful man” on social media. Mr. Nauta faces six charges, including obstruction of justice conspiracy, record withholding, document concealment, and making fraudulent statements.
The former president defended Mr. Nauta on his social media platform, Truth Social, and accused US Department of Justice officials of “trying to destroy” the aide’s life.
Mr. Nauta “served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide”, Mr. Trump stated.
Do you know who Josh Lorence, Aileen Cannon’s husband, is? Aileen Mercedes Cannon is an attorney and federal judge for the Southern District of Florida:
According to the indictment, Mr. Trump instructed his assistant to remove boxes from a storage area and conceal them from Mr. Trump’s counsel, the FBI, and the grand jury.
Mr. Nauta, whose given name is Waltine, served as President Trump’s military attendant, a position comparable to that of a personal valet and sometimes referred to as a “body-man.” In the Trump White House, he has been described as a constant presence.
Mr. Nauta enlisted in the US Navy in 2001 after being born in Agat, Guam, a US territory. Navy records indicate that in 2021 he rose through the ranks to become a Senior Chief Culinary Specialist.
In August of 2021, according to the indictment, Mr. Nauta became Donald Trump’s executive assistant. Mr. Nauta relocated to Florida, unlike other advisers who wanted to remain in Washington DC after Mr. Trump lost the 2020 election.
He continued to function as the former president’s assistant at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach. Mr. Nauta’s proximity to Mr. Trump put him in the crosshairs of the justice department’s investigation into the classified documents the ex-president took to Florida after departing the White House.
Before Mr. Nauta was charged, family members in Guam described him as a “good boy” who migrated to the United States “to enjoy his life, not to cause problems” in an exclusive interview with the Washington Post.
His mother, Pauline Torre, stated that her son’s selection to serve the president “says it all.” However, according to his aunt, he did everything “at the direction of the former president.”
His aunt Elly Nauta told –
“All he was instructed was to put the boxes where they were supposed to go.”
