Karyn Parsons Rockwell is an American actress, writer and comedian. She gained the most notoriety for her 1990–1996 appearance as Hilary Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In addition, Parsons played Toni in The Job and Major Payne which starred Damon Wayans and Parsons.
On October 8, 1966, in Los Angeles, California, Parsons was born. She identified as multiracial in an interview she gave in 2008. Her father, Kenneth B. Parsons was a British American from Butte, Montana and her mother, Louise Parsons was an African American from Charleston, South Carolina.
Karyn Parsons Journey: From Bel-Air to Lush Life
On The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air available on Hulu ran from 1990 to 1996. The Fox sitcom Lush Life which was eventually canceled after four episodes was co-created, co-produced, co-written and co-starred by her in 1996.
She co-starred with Denis Leary in the critically praised but transient television series The Job in 2001. In addition to acting on television, Parsons has also appeared in a number of movies, mostly comedies including Late Nights, Major Payne and The Ladies Man.
The Sweet Blackberry Foundation founded by Parsons creates animated movies and publications commemorating underappreciated black heroes. The series’ first video featured Henry Box Brown, a slave who sent himself to freedom.
In addition, Parsons has written three books for kids: How High the Moon, a middle-grade novel that was loosely based on tales of her mother’s youth in the Jim Crow South and Flying Free and Saving the Day, two Sweet Blackberry picture-book biographies of important black figures that were illustrated by R. Gregory Christie.
