The renowned Tom Jolls pἀssed away recently, and it is with great sadness that the 7 News family shares the news with you. At Buffalo Hospice in Cheektowaga on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Jolls, who many will remember lovingly as Commander Tom, pἀssed away peacefully. The hospice informed his family that he had pἀssed away.
WKBW-TV (Channel 7) legends Tom Jolls (the weatherman), Irv Weinstein (the news anchor), and Rick Azar (the sports director) all parted ways this week. Jolls dἰed on Wednesday (7 June) at the age of 89.
His family on both sides was there to care for him when he pἀssed away. Tom’s time on WKBW’s 7 News Team was a highlight of his career. He was born and raised in Lockport and knew no other place. He had been working at the station for over 30 years at that point, having joined in 1965.

Tom was a regular on 7 Eyewitness News, along with veteran news anchor Irv Weinstein and sports anchor Rick Azar. The now-famous question, “It’s 11 o’clock, do you know where your children are?” was a staple of Mr. Jolls’ broadcasts. He retired from WKBW in 1999 after working there for many years. Tom’s induction into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1998 was an important milestone in his life.
