Since October 2018, when YNW Melly allegedly mυrdered his two companions, 1,628 days have pἀssed. The South Florida rapper is going on trial for a double mυrder after years of postponement.
With a viral smash in “Mυrder on My Mind,” a cosign from Kanye West, and a rapidly growing fanbase, YNW Melly was one of the most talked-about rap acts to start 2019. That came tumbling down when he was arɼested on mυrder charges on February 13, 2019, for the deἀths of YNW Juvy (Chris Thomas, 20) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21). Five months of inquiry into the mυrders led to the arɼest.
Williams and Thomas were taken to the Memorial Hospital in Miramar, Florida at around 4:35 a.m. on the morning of October 26, 2018 by YNW Bortlen (Cortlen Henry). Both males had been sh0t many times and were already deἀd when police arrived.
Bortlen stated that the two men were sh0t by unknown gunmen in a drive-by. The police ultimately deduced that Melly was the sh00ter and took him into custody along with Bortlen. The mυrder and accessory to mυrder charges against Bortlen were brought back to Florida from Houston, where he was arɼested.
The Miramar Police Department said in a statement:
“Jamell Demons, a.k.a. YNW Melly & Cortlen Henry have been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree mυrder.”
On October 26, 2018, the lives of Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. Evidence from the scene and interviews with witnesses led police to determine that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to make it look like a drive-by sh00ting and that Demons sh0t and kἰlled Williams and Thomas Jr.
Melly YNW was turned down for bail. He insisted he was innocent and that he had been unfairly accυsed.
Melly entered a not-guilty plea in March 2019. He claims he wasn’t there, and that he had no reason to kἰll his pals. However, according to the prosecution, Melly’s mother, Jamie King, had been threatened by YNW Sakchaser about money before her daughter was mυrdered.
The victims’ families have expressed their approval of the prosecution’s decision to pursue the deἀth penalty, which was made public in April 2019. Photos taken at the crime site in November of that year allegedly corroborated the prosecution’s theory that the victims were sh0t while sitting in the car.

According to Jamie King, YNW Melly’s mother, jury selection has commenced in her son’s double-mυrder case and the trial date has been scheduled for June 5, 2023.
