On May 21, 2023, The live, three-hour season finale of American Idol featured special appearances by legendary musicians and best performers. The best 3 candidates then take the stage for the very last time as America chooses who will be the next American Idol.
The American Idol season 21 hosted by Emmy Award winner Ryan Seacrest. Keith Urban, a former Idol judge is back and singing “Wild Heart” as part of the all-star lineup of artists.
Urban also served as each finalist’s mentor. Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, Jazmine Sullivan, Jelly Roll, Kevin Cronin, Kylie Minogue, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Daigle, Pitbull and TLC are also confirmed to perform on stage. Additionally, the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan all performed their own songs.

What Happened in the Competition’s Final Episode?
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 8 to 11 p.m., “American Idol” aired its season finale. The last episode featured performances by Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle Worship and Colin Stough. The finale also featured special performances from music legends and today’s top artists.
A new season of “American Idol” has been announced in the finale episode. The first 15 of its 21 seasons were broadcast on Fox and the final six on ABC. This episode is filled with so much action! The remaining competitors first travel to their hometowns, where they were welcomed with open arms.
Keith Urban, a former judge on American Idol is back to mentor the three and perform live. The ABC series will return the next year, even if the competition has come to an end this year. The show has already received a season 22 renewal from the network, thus we can anticipate the launch anytime between January and March 2024.
