Who is Kevin Cronin?
Kevin Patrick Cronin is an American singer-songwriter born on October 6, 1951. He is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist for the rock group REO Speedwagon. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the band enjoyed a number of singles including two number-one songs written by Cronin: “Keep on Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling.”
Cronin comes from the Chicago suburbs in Illinois. He was born in the Illinois town of Evanston and raised in the southwest suburb of Oak Lawn, where he also picked up the guitar. He was a student at St. Linus Catholic Elementary. He received his diploma from Brother Rice High School in Chicago.

Kevin Cronin’s Songwriting Journey
Cronin joined REO Speedwagon not long after the band’s 1971 debut album was completed. He collaborated on one album with the group but soon quit due to missing practices and artistic differences. After a brief solo career, Cronin joined the group again in 1976.
After Greg X. Volz declined the lead vocal position as a result of his commitment to Christianity, Cronin made a comeback. Despite the band’s peak period of popularity being in the late 1970s and early 1980s, they continued to create music into the 2000s, including Find Your Own Way Home.
Hi Infidelity, their best-known record has sold more than 10 million copies. Cronin has said that they play for free but get paid for the traveling.
Many of the band’s top hits including “Keep on Loving You,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Keep the Fire Burnin’,” “I Do’ Wanna Know,” “Keep Pushin’,” “Roll with the Changes,” “Time for Me to Fly,” “Here with Me,” “In My Dreams” and “Don’t Let Him Go,” were written by him or with whom he collaborated.
The vocal range of a dramatic tenor can be heard in Cronin. On March 27, 2008, Cronin participated in Don’t Forget the Lyrics as a celebrity contestant. Before forgetting the words to “Last Dance” by Donna Summer, he had amassed $350,000.
He can be seen in an advertisement for TimeLife’s Ultimate Rock Ballads which includes songs by REO Speedwagon\ largely from the 1980s, the decade in which the band was at its height of popularity.
