Jeff Bridges shares his honest opinions on life, deἀth and sorrow since struggling with multiple serious health issues. The 73-year-old actor has recently dealt with several health issues, which he claims have changed the way he views his own mortality.

Bridges revealed in a recent interview with PEOPLE, how suffering from different illnesses “heightened the experience of dancing with my mortality.” The Old Man performer battled two instances of COVID-19 after receiving a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in 2020.

He told, “It just heightened the experience of most of my philosophies in life, and it all gets down to that corny ‘L’ word — love. That seems to be what’s running my ship, and going through these tough times, it kind of exacerbated all of that philosophy of love.”

He also talked about how his family handled his medical issues, saying they “were so supportive about cἀncer and COVID…It just brought to my attention how much they loved me and how much I loved them.”

Bridges is the father of three daughters: Isabelle, Jessica Lily, and Haley Roselouise. He has been married to Susan Geston for many years.

The Oscar winner continued, “When you get close to losing something like that, your gratitude and your thankfulness for what you have, the people you love, and the love you feel for your loved ones, grows. It just magnifies it, and something positive came out of it.”

Bridges initially became ill with COVID-19 in January 2021, before he could be immunized and undergo chemotherapy, making his body’s response more susceptible to the virus.

He previously admitted to the publications that, due to his chemo, he had “no defenses” and was “pretty close to dying” during his initial episode with COVID. “COVID made my cἀncer look like nothing.”

Bridges’ cἀncer is currently in a state of eventually developing COVID once again, though he stated that it “wasn’t a severe case” this time.

Jeff Bridges tweeted about his COVID experience on May 11th. Read out the full Tweet below for more info!

However, the circumstance has increased the Crazy Heart alum’s voice in support of vaccine availability, and he also plans to talk more about his experience with COVID as an immunocompromised person to educate and motivate others.
