Garth Brooks received a little more than he anticipated from Dolly Parton as co-host of the Academy of Country Music Awards on Thursday 11 May.

At the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, where the 2023 ACMs were held, Brooks paused for a brief moment to pay tribute to Dolly Parton, the “G.O.A.T.” The abbreviation “GOAT” stands for “greatest of all time.”

Did I hear you say you were looking for a goat? Parton joked as she rolled out on stage with a live goat in a wagon. Here, I’ve got your mule.

Before Parton brought up hearing that she was a “hall pass” for Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood, they had been exchanging sweet words back and forth.

And I thought I couldn’t love you anymore,” Brooks retorted, his face flushed. The singer of “Friends in Low Places” wed country music performer Yearwood in 2005.

Parton had earlier in the week told that she was excited to present the awards show with her pal.

Parton said:

“I think Trish [Yearwood] is there as well. We’re friends actually, I’ve just never hosted with him.”

“I’ve known them for a long time, they’re both just wonderful. I don’t know if she’s singing or not, but I know she’s there, so I’ll have to be nice.”

Parton joked, “She’s Jolene you know?”

When Chris Stapleton won the prized Entertainer of the Year award at the ACMS, he was taken aback.

Check out the tweet posted by Garth Brooks:

He remarked there were many brilliant performers deserving of the victory and quipped that the numbers just did not match up.

Stapleton remarked:

“I’ve never through of myself as somebody who would win this award, and I’m so grateful.”

Before expressing gratitude for his children at home, the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer praised his entire staff.
