Frank Kozik a musician who collaborated with groups like Queens of the Stone Age, Green Day, Pearl Jam, and others, has pἀssed away at the age of 61.

A statement explaining how the artist died on May 6 and his deἀth came as a shock to his family was posted on the artist’s social media profile earlier today (May 10). “Frank was a legend in every genre he worked in, a man bigger than life. He had a significant impact on the industry he worked in, it said.

“He was a creative force of nature. We are so beyond lucky and honoured to have been part of his journey, and he will be missed beyond what words could ever express.”

Kozik was a well-known artist whose creations were much praised in the 1990s music scene. He started his work as a self-taught poster designer for regional punk bands in the Austin music scene in the 1980s.

The White Stripes, Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam, and other prominent rock musicians eventually became aware of his work and commissioned him to create concert and tour posters for them.

The Offspring’s fifth studio album, “Americana,” the Melvins’ “Houdini,” and Queens Of The Stone Age’s self-titled debut from 1998 are some of his most well-known works. Outside of the music scene, he also created tour posters for the Beastie Boys, a hip-hop outfit.

His work also included appearances in music videos. For instance, he created the music video for the 1996 Soundgarden song “Pretty Noose,” which appeared on their fifth album, “Down On The Upside.” Watch the video down below.

Over 200 records were published by Kozik’s own record company, Man’s Ruin, which he founded in 1993 and operated until 2001. Releases by acts like Melvins, Kyuss, Entombed, Queens Of The Stone Age, and others were featured. After closing the label (through Consequence), he worked on the art toy movement.

Numerous figures in the entertainment industry have used social media to honor the musician in the wake of the news of his pἀssing.

D.Norsen, a graphic designer for acts including The Grateful Dead hailed Kozik as “one of the all time greats,” in his tribute, while Rocket Recordings added:

“Saddened to hear the news about the very untimely deἀth of Frank Kozik. He was a huge influence on the early days of Rocket, so much so he designed our first logo. A huge and sad loss for DIY art and culture. Rest In Power Frank.”

One of the major bands who collaborated with Kozik, Queens Of The Stone Age, has not yet released a statement regarding his loss. However, they did release a preview for “a new era of music” yesterday (May 9), in the form of a short clip.
