Carl Lentz is giving some background on his current situation. Taking to Instagram on a Tuesday, Lentz who was ousted as pastor of Hillsong in 2020 for “moral failings” spoke up about his marriage to ex-wife Laura Lentz and the upcoming documentary that will detail his fall from grace and cheating scandal.
Lentz began by mentioning his and Laura’s three children, Ava, Charlie, and Roman:
“For the last three years my entire focus has been fighting for my wife and kids, my family has been the only priority.”
To achieve these objectives it was necessary to pursue sobriety and healing at the same time. In all candor, nothing else really counted. Nothing stated about me or us, whether true or false, false or half-true, made any difference at all.
My only motivation was to show my family that I could finally commit to being there for them on a consistent basis.
On May 5 we were able to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in the purest way possible.
Lentz remarked that this achievement “came through a lot of humiliation, embarrassment, and heartache.” The Lentzes’ participation in the upcoming (May 19) The Secrets of Hillsong docuseries on FX can be attributed to this sentiment.
“Healing from that loss led us to the decision to be a part of a documentary that we do not control, that we have no say in and that we have not even seen yet,” he wrote.
The rest of the world must see it before we do. Instead of focusing on who was at fault and who was at fault for what happened, we decided to examine our own actions and the larger context in which they occurred.

When you’ve been through hell and back and know that God is still with you, that’s when you can say, I can honestly tell you that. Lentz went on, It’s very liberating. For the many people I know who feel called by God yet keep secrets and doubt their own worth, this is the kind of liberation I pray for. Believe me, it took me to some really low points.
Though he is still a member of “an amazing church that loves and supports us,” Lentz stated that he is “no longer in ministry.”
He remarked, “My role is to help give perspective and insight where I can, not to preach or oversee people.”
Knowing that what I have been through and what I have overcome can benefit so many people brings me great joy and hope. I have a lot of options both inside and outside the church to do that.
Check out more details we have covered relating to ED Sheeran talking about his wife’s health details in upcoming documentary:
Lentz stated:
“I’m not the first man to be in this situation, and I won’t be the last, but I can promise you I’ll be the guy standing with my arms open wide for anyone who’s been on this path of addiction and destruction.”
From the pulpit, I couldn’t have said:
“I understand it and my connection with Jesus the way I do now. Changing one’s ways and repenting takes time, but he said he was looking forward to the journey. As the saying goes, “It makes me truly wonder if this is what all of this pain was all about.”
