Mary Welch is the daughter of Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari. When Mary’s father discovered her deἀd in a cot in August 2018, the infant weighed only eight pounds and was the size of a newborn.
Prosecutors claim that her Father starved his 10-month-old daughter to deἀth because he thought she was too frail to assist on the farm. Mary’s mother was found guilty of mμrder and child abμse and given a life sentence without the possibility of parole in front of Kent County Judge Paul J. Denenfeld.
In court, Fusari’s lawyer declared that they would appeal her case as quickly as possible. Fusari will also need to cover court fees and fines. She made no remarks about the stand. Sources said, Before passing judgment on Fusari, Judge Paul Denenfeld who handled her case, said:
“I can see that this is a horrible scenario. I don’t think I’ll ever really get what these parents were doing or thinking as they figuratively watched their child starve to deἀth.”
Seth Welch, Fusari’s husband was also found guilty of first-degree child abμse and mμrder in the deἀth of their daughter in January 2020. Fusari previously testified in court that her husband had t0rtured and assἀulted her, leaving her unable to care for young Mary.
Attorney Damian D. Nunzio who represents Fusari spoke to FOX 17:
“I think the evidence was clear that she was, you know, beἀten and she had a framed perspective given to her by, you know, her then husband, Seth Welch.”
He continued:
“People don’t understand the full impact— What that meant… how victims of s*xual, physἰcal and emotional assἀult go through these things and what they have to put up with in order to survive on a day-to-day basis.”
When Welch’s 911 calls were played in previous court proceedings, it appeared that the couple had put their daughter to bed the previous day at around 3:30 p.m. and hadn’t checked on her again until around 10 a.m. the following day.
A dispatcher asks Welch in the call, “So you’re saying it is normal for your children to sleep from around 3 p.m. till 10 a.m.?” He responds, “Yeah!”
Welch informs the dispatcher that they think the kid has pἀssed away.
