The San Juan Street Fight between Bad Bunny and Damian Priest at this Saturday’s WWE Backlash wasn’t always intended to be Bad Bunny’s return to the ring.
There was talk of a six-man bout pitting Bunny, Rey, and Santos Escobar against Priest, Dominik, and Finn Balor, and another that pitted Bunny, Rey, and Dominik against Priest, Rey, and Finn Balor. Rey Mysterio is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023.
A fresh article from Fightful Select reveals that the original idea was to pit Bunny and Rey against Priest and Dominik in a tag team match at WrestleMania 39, but those plans were scrapped once it became clear that everyone would be more at ease with a singles match.
It was mentioned that the initial plan for the tag team fight included Bunny pinning Dominik, making the crowd very delighted. WWE and Bunny reportedly felt confident that Bunny could have a successful singles battle against Priest under the Street Fight stipulation, so they removed The Mysterious from the contest.

Bunny was last seen on RAW on April 24 when he used a kendo staff to defend Mysterio from Priest. Then he declared a street brawl in San Juan. WWE has announced that Bunny would host and wrestle this Saturday 6 May, at Backlash despite his comments on April 24 that he will no longer be doing so because of the Street Fight.
