When Will The Gran Turismo Release?
This movie is set to be released against Universal’s Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Sony Pictures announced its release date. Gran Turismo hit theaters on 11 August 2023. Though we get no streaming dates yet, definitely this movie will be streamed also only on Netflix because of the deal between Sony Pictures and the streamer in 2021. Do You Know The Gran Turismo Plot?
Sony’s planned Gran Turismo is a biographical sports film. The video game-based film is focused on drive and race and does not have any to-the-point story. But Jann Mardenborough’s story could be seen, which is cleverly used by Sony Pictures.

Who Will Appear in Gran Turismo?
Jann Mardenborough lead character of the movie is played by Archie Madekwe. Archie previously appeared in the A24 series Midsommar and the Apple TV+ series See (2019-2022). His upcoming project Heart of Stone premiered on Netflix, on the same date as Gran Turismo released.
Jann’s mother will be played by Spice Girls actress Geri Halliwell, and Daniel Puig from Naomi will play Jonn’s brother’s role. Steve Mardenborough, father of Jonn is played by Djimon Hounsou, who was nominated for an Academy Award.
He appeared in several genres of films like superheroes, horror, and comedy, like Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, the Shazam films, Aquaman, and Black Adam. He also did some hit franchises like Furious 7, A Quiet Place Part II, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and The King’s Man.
His upcoming film will be a science fiction Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon. Next character Jack Salter, who is John’s trainer in the film played by David Harbour also known as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things.
He appeared in several other films including The Equalizer, Suicide Aquad, Extraction, and Marvel’s Black Widow. In 2024, his new project will be announced Thunderbolts, in which he will reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov. Orlando Bloom played Danny Moore, who previously appeared in The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Another cast includes Darren Barnet as Matty Davis, Geri Halliwell (Spice World), Daniel Puig, Joshua Stradowski (The Wheel of Time), Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Maeve Courtier-Lilley, Richard Cambridge, Emelia Hartford, Sang Heon Lee, Max Mundt, Harki Bhambra, Nikhil Parmar (Foundation), Mariano González, Théo Christine, Lindsay Pattison, and Pepe Barroso will be seen.
How did Neil Get inspiration to Make Gran Turismo?
During a Q&A session with Neil Blomkamp, he shares how he gets inspiration to adapt to such a different genre of film. “Well, it really came down to creating something that would just be cool to watch on a large cinema screen, and for that, we doubled down on FPV drones to carry IMAX sensor-approved cameras,” Blomkamp said.
“There’s a ton of airborne, high-speed drone work in the film, and we utilized a pursuit-arm mounted to a high-speed vehicle. In this case, we actually mounted it to an R35 GTR, which could actually keep pace (pretty much) with a lot of the GT3 cars in the film.”
“So between that car and the drone work, you already have some cool dynamic angles,” Blomkamp continues. “But, I was also obsessed with recreating camera angles players know from the game: so, for the third-person chase perspective, we built an R1 rig that could position a camera such that the entire car would fit within the frame.”

Team Behind Gran Turismo
Neil Blomkamp, nominated for an Academy Award for District 9, will direct it, and Jason Hall, who was nominated for an Academy Award for American Sniper, and Zack Baylin nominated for King Richard for the same award provide its screenplay.
Doug Belgard, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Academy Award nominee Dana Brunetti will produce Gran Turismo. Jason Hall and Kazunori Yamauchi will be the executive producer who produces the same-name video game. Jacques Jouffret will serve as the cinematographer.
