Pete Davidson SNL Episode: What is the Reason Behind it’s Cancellation?

Pete Davidson’s comeback to Saturday Night Live will have to wait. NBC has announced that the May 6 episode of the comedy sketch show, which the Bupkis actor was set to host along with musical guest Lil Uzi Vert, has been canceled due to the Writers Guild of America strike. The network stated on May 2 that it would be airing reruns of SNL indefinitely.

After eight seasons, Pete decided to leave the show last year, and he joked that he would take the cancellation personally if the writers went on strike.

“It sucks,” he said to Jimmy Fallon on April 28’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “because it just feeds my weird story I have in my head, like, ‘Of course that would happen to me.'”

Pete had previously stated that he wasn’t sure if his episode will actually tape, but that it “would be really cool” to return to his old haunts. After weeks of negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the Writers Guild of America went on strike on May 2.

The Authors Guild of America said in a statement that “the WGA Negotiating Committee began this process intent on making a fair deal,” but that “the studios’ responses have been wholly insufficient given the existential crisis writers are facing.” As of tomorrow afternoon, “picketing” will get underway.

If  you are a Pete Davidson fan then you must be curious about these details:

This is not the first time a strike has disrupted SNL’s regular airing schedule. When the Writers Guild of America went on strike in 2007, the program was only four episodes into its 33rd season, and two tapings with Dwayne Johnson and Jonah Hill had to be scrapped.

Tina Fey took over as host when the show returned in February 2008, three months later. In comparison to a typical season’s 20 episodes, this one only had 12.
