Before the premiere of the new season of “MasterChef Australia,” host Jock Zonfrillo pἀssed away at the age of 46 on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in Melbourne. A statement from Zonfrillo’s family was provided by sources in which they expressed their shock and grief over his pἀssing. The statement added:
“So many words can describe him, so many stories can be told, but at this time we’re too overwhelmed to put them into words. For those who crossed his path, became his mate or were lucky enough to be his family, keep this proud Scot in your hearts when you have your next whἰsky.”
“We implore you to please let us grieve privately as we find a way to navigate through this and find space on the other side to celebrate our irreplaceable husband, father, brother, son and friend.”
Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver wrote on Facebook that he was in total shock after knowing about Zonfrillo’s pἀssing. He wrote, “We had the best time working together for this years master chef. “
Zonfrillo’s pἀssing was described as devἀstating news by fellow British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. He tweeted about it:
“I truly enjoyed the time we spent together on MasterChef in Australia, Sending all my love to Lauren.”
Jock Zonfrillo’s cause of deἀth is unknown yet. Zonfrillo, who was born in Glasgow in 1976 received his training from some of the most renowned chefs in the world. He began his career in the kitchen in London, England working for chef Marco Pierre White, whom he later credited with saving his life.
Last year, Zonfrillo tried her0in as a youngster in Glasgow and drμg addiction d0gged him for years as he built on his early success. The book’s description of “Last Sh0t” states:
“For years he balanced a career as a rising star among legendary chefs with a crippling drμg addiction that took him down many dark paths.”
In 1999, Zonfrillo emigrated to Australia and took the position of head chef at Restaurant 41 in Sydney. After that, he opened Restaurant Orana in Adelaide, a fine dining venue that received awards in 2019 and 2020 before closing.
He was the host of several food shows, such as “Nomad Chef” which provided a glimpse into the cuisine of some of the world’s most isolated villages, as well as “Restaurant Revolution” and “Chef Exchange.”
He established The Orana Foundation in 2016 with the goal of promoting the benefits of Indigenous Australian cuisine. For promoting Indigenous culture and culinary traditions, he also received the coveted Basque Culinary World Prize in 2018.
But probably his most well-known performance was on the wildly successful Australian television series “MasterChef” which in recent years helped make him a household figure in the nation.
