On April 27, 2023, Springer pἀssed away at his home in Chicago, Illinois. Jene Galvin, his lifelong friend and the family’s official representative, broke the news of his pἀssing and referred to him as irreplaceable. Jene Galvin spoke to NBC News and confirmed that the actor had dἰed of pancreatic cancer.
“Whether it was politics, broadcasting or simply laughing with strangers on the street who wanted a photo or a word, Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the center of his success.”
Galvin continued:
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried, whether it was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word. He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intelligence, heart and humor will live on.”
Cincinnati’s Valley Temple Rabbi Sandford Kopnick said that Springer’s illness was sudden and he dἰed of cancer. In retrospect, he saw Springer as a kind and generous person who was not really best pictured on his television show.
Kopnick continued:
“He was very, very smart, He was a remarkable family man and he was somebody who understood what it means to pay it forward.”
Former politician Jerry Springer rose to fame as the host of his namesake, a very controversial talk show on syndication from 1991 until 2018. Over the course of his decades-long acting career, he made a number of cinematic appearances, notably the Jerry Farrelly character in the comedy Ringmaster (1998).
Cameo appearances on Roseanne, The Simpsons, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and other shows rounded out his television resume.
