Burnett’s groundbreaking television work is celebrated by Steve Carell at the beginning of the program.
“Tonight you will see an amazing gathering of talented performers, friends and fans from every generation—except babies—who are here to celebrate the hilarious, incredible, one-of-a-kind, no one like her, Carol Burnett,” added Carell. “Get ready because we’re going to lay it on thick,” the speaker said.
Cher acknowledged Burnett’s significant contribution to her success when she went solo in her career and Amy Poehler joined the stage as Burnett watched from the audience while dressed in a sequined Bob Mackie outfit.
Bracco said that Burnett who is also a producer on the special was aware of her preferences.
‘I don’t want a birthday party,’ she declared. I don’t want cake, balloons, or “Happy Birthday” to be sung to me. Bracco recounted that she declared, “I wanna put on a show, I wanna have music and comedy.”
That Burnett “remembers everything,” recalling specific dates, images and anecdotes from her performances over the years, didn’t hurt.
It was “one of the most special evenings” Gierahn had ever produced, she told.
It wasn’t simply the part of it that produced TV. Simply put, it was a lovely occasion, she remarked. “Everything went really well, and the atmosphere was just so happy.”
Gierahn praised the event, saying, “Seeing all the reactions from all of Carol’s friends and celebrities, everyone was so engaged and just happy.”
Bracco noted that Burnett personally attended edit sessions and was overjoyed with the finished product. She became a little tearful while watching it back, he claimed. It was exactly what she had in mind, and we were overjoyed to give it to her.
