Aquaman Sequel Trailer

Aquaman Sequel Trailer

A trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom featured a cameo by Amber Heard’s Mera at CinemaCon 2023.  Warner Bros. Pictures announced its next slate of feature films, including the next DC Studios projects, at the convention for movie theater business members.

Only those in attendance on Tuesday 25 April, saw the first trailer for Aquaman 2, which featured the return of Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as well as the return of Heard as Mera. There has been no public release of the trailer as of yet.

In June, a representative for Heard said, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.” The rumor mill had been spreading rumors that Heard, then 37 years old, had been cut from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

This news item surfaced after a Virginia jury ruled in favor of Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp in their defamation lawsuit. Since then, she and Depp have settled their differences, and they’ve both dropped their appeals of the judgment.

Amber Heard’s Mera In ‘Aquaman’ Sequel Teaser At CinemaCon

Heard claimed she “fought really hard to stay in” the sequel to Aquaman, despite the fact that “they didn’t want to include me in the film.” As for her role as Mera, she claims it was “very pared down.”

Without giving anything away, I was given a script, and then I was given fresh copies of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in them, that represented my character and another character fighting with one another, and they basically pulled a load out of my role. “They just took a big chunk out,” she stated under oath.

Heard’s talent agent, Jessica Kovacevic, said in court that her client was told she had a lower role in the sequel due to her “lack of chemistry” with costar Momoa (then 43). However, Kovacevic said that the studio’s distance from Heard was due to the harsh publicity and internet insults made at her during the Depp controversy.

According to Walter Hamada, former president of DC Films at Warner Bros., Heard’s involvement in the sequel was unaffected by comments made by Depp or his counsel. A “lack of chemistry” between Heard and Momoa was a topic of concern, he added, according to studio gossip.

“The character’s involvement in the story was what it was from the beginning,” he added of Mera’s significance in the “buddy-comedy” sequel, which follows “co-leads” Momoa and Wilson.

Hamada commented, “My understanding is actually the production went very smoothly.” when questioned about problems that arose during filming with Heard in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
