Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson (born May 16, 1969) is a conservative American political pundit, author, and television broadcaster who, from 2016 to 2023, presided over his own nightly Fox News show called Tucker Carlson Tonight.
Carlson got his start in the media in the 1990s, when he began contributing articles to The Weekly Standard and other outlets. From 2000 through 2005, he served as a CNN analyst and, from 2001 until 2005, as a co-host of Crossfire, CNN’s flagship news discussion show.
He was the nightly host of MSNBC’s Tucker from 2005 to 2008. In 2009, he started working as a political commentator for Fox News, where he eventually got his own show. Carlson sold his own part in The Daily Caller, a conservative news and opinion website he co-founded in 2010, and left his position as its editor-in-chief in 2020. He is the author of three books: Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites (2003), Ship of Fools (2018), and The Long Slide (2021).

Carlson’s younger brother, initially known as Buckley Peck Carlson and then as Buckley Swanson Peck Carlson, is a communications manager and former Republican political operative.

Tucker Carlson’s Job in the Media
Prior to joining the Hoover Institution, Carlson worked as a fact checker for the national conservative publication Policy Review, which was formerly published by The Heritage Foundation. Before joining The Weekly Standard in 1995, he was an opinion writer for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock. When Carlson heard that the magazine was being founded, he wanted to be a part of it because he didn’t want to be “written off as a wing nut” if he joined The American Spectator.
He’s a competent journalist who simply misread the gravity of the situation. I view the death penalty with extreme seriousness. Some on the left praised Carlson’s article, with Democratic consultant Bob Shrum using the word “vivid” to describe it. Carlson added, “I thought I’d be ragged for writing a puffy piece,” in reference to the interview. My better half warned me that if I walk about looking for work, people would assume I’m applying to the Bush campaign.
Tucker Carlson’s Opinions on Politics
Conservative and paleoconservative labels have been applied to Carlson in the press. “Maybe the most powerful conservative in America,” Time magazine declared of Carlson in 2021.
According to Park MacDougald’s 2019 article in the New York Magazine Intelligencer, Carlson is a “Middle American radical” because of his populist economic views, his antipathy toward corporatocracy, his zealous stances on nationalism, racism, and immigration, and his preference for a strong leader in the White House.
MacDougald argued that this radicalism is fundamental to Trumpism. Carlson has gained n0toriety for mainstreaming white supremacist ideas and vocabulary by, for example, rebranding the racial “replacement” conspiracy theory as an accusation against Democrats and “elites” for attempting to alter the country’s demographic makeup. Carlson has condemned mass sh00tings in which more extreme variants of the conspiracy theory were invoked by the sh00ters.
