Don Lemon

Don Lemon is an American television journalist best known for hosting CNN from 2014 until 2023. He was born on March 1, 1966. In his early career as a journalist, he hosted weekend newscasts on regional television stations in Pennsylvania and Alabama.

For NBC, Lemon served as a news correspondent for shows like Today and NBC Nightly News. He began working for CNN in 2006 as a correspondent and went on to become well-known as the host of Don Lemon Tonight from 2014 to 2022.

Before being fἰred from CNN in April 2023, he most recently co-hosted “CNN This Morning” with Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow. Lemon has also won three regional Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award and a national Emmy Award.

Why is Don Lemon fἰred by CNN?

Don Lemon claims he has been let go from the CNN morning show “CNN This Morning” which he co-hosted for around six months alongside Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow. He wrote, “I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned.”

CNN CEO Chris Licht issued a statement wishing him well and promising to encourage him on in his future pursuits. Licht said:

“To my CNN Colleagues, CNN and Don have parted ways. Don will forever be a part of the CNN family and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years.”

He continued:

“CNN This Morning has been on the air for nearly six months and we are committed to its success.”

Neither Lemon nor CNN offered a reason for the exit. Lemon was unhappy with the way the news was broken to him. He said:

“I was never given any indication that I would not be able to continue doing the work I have loved at CNN and after 17 years there, I would have thought that someone in management would have the decency to tell me personally.”

“There are obviously deeper issues at play here. Finally, I’d like to express my gratitude to the many teams I’ve been a part of over my career. I hope the best for them because they are the most gifted journalists in the field.

According to CNN’s communications on Twitter, Lemon’s claims that he was unfairly fἰred are false. Reports from CNN stated, “Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate, He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Lemon began working at CNN in September 2006. Before taking over “CNN This Morning,” Lemon hosted the evening news program “Don Lemon Tonight” for over eight years. During Trump’s presidency, he rose to prominence for his frank criticism of the president in which he confronted the president’s lies and labeled him a “racἰst.”

His s*xist remarks on CNN’s “CNN This Morning” in February drew widespread condemnation. Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential contender has proposed that older politicians take competency tests and during an on-air conversation, host Don Lemon stated that Haley, at 51 years old, “isn’t in her prime.”

According to Lemon, a woman is considered to be in her prime in their 20s, 30s and maybe 40s. Harlow and Collins, his co-hosts, pushed back, but Lemon stood firm. Licht stated he had a “frank” discussion with Lemon who expressed remorse and planned to take part in training formally.

Licht said:

“It is important to me that CNN balances accountability with fostering a culture in which people can own, learn and grow from their mistakes.”

Lemon said:

“When I make a mistake, I own it, And I own this one as well.”
