On Sunday, Comcast announced that NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell had been fired due to “an inappropriate relationship” with a CNBC anchor. According to reports, an outside counsel’s probe into a complaint lodged against him uncovered evidence of the alleged affair.
“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal,” Shell said in a statement released on Sunday 23 April. I regret greatly that I engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a female coworker.
My sincere apologies to my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal, it reads in the statement. Working with them over the past decade has been an honor since they are some of the most skilled professionals in the field.
According to Deadline.com, Hadley Gamble, a news presenter and senior international correspondent, was the woman Shell cheated on her husband with. The publication claims the couple began dating 11 years ago and have been together off and on ever since.
Shell, who is in a committed relationship, has worked for the firm for twenty years.
According to The Wall Street Journal, he oversaw the entertainment division of the media conglomerate before leaving when the company’s Peacock streaming service was falling behind the competition. The publication reported that despite adding more than 20 million subscribers in the last quarter, Peacock lost about $1 billion.
Comcast did not specify the employee’s title or explain her connection to Shell. Previously, Gamble made headlines when Russian state media accυsed her of using herself as a “s*xual object” to distract Russian President Vladimir Putin. Some sites even claimed she was part of a US “special operation.”
Following her October 2021 interview with Putin at a panel during Moscow’s Russian Energy Week, the charges surfaced. According to a translated story from the year 2021 on the Daily Beast, Vladimir Soloviev said on his official radio show that Gamble distracted Putin with her “s*x appeal,” while propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov accused the experienced journalist of having “behaved boldly, openly positioning herself as a s*xual object.”
According to the site, Olga Skabeeva stated that Gamble was part of a US “special operation” to kἰll Putin. Before becoming CEO in January 2020, Shell led NBCUniversal’s Film and Entertainment division as its chairman, where he was responsible for developing original programs and supervising the work of other departments.

Businesses in film and television including the Spanish-language Telemundo network were included. In May 2020, Shell reduced pay for executives by 20% and for those making over $100,000 by 3% in an effort to mitigate the company’s financial losses from the COVID-19 epidemic.
After Steve Burke resigned as CEO of NBCUniversal in December 2019, Shell was promoted to his previous position. According to SEC filings, revenue increased under Burke’s leadership from $31.4 billion in 2016 to approximately $35.9 billion in 2018.
As the latest media sector executive to retire in the wake of the scandal, Shell follows in the footsteps of former NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Ron Meyer, who resigned after disclosing that an ex-lover was threatening to extort him.
