Jan Hooks best known for her work on Saturday Night Live pἀssed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014, in New York at the age of 57 her spokeswoman, Lisa Lieberman confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
She is well known for her role as one half of The Sweeney Sisters alongside Nora Dunn on the NBC late-night variety show she joined in 1986. At the 40th Emmy Awards in August of 1988, she opened the show in costume.
Amy Poehler said in a statement:
“When I first saw Jan Hooks on Saturday Night Live, I was 15 years old. I could relate to every one of her characters. Among the greats, she stood tall. We used to speak about how brilliant she was all the time when I worked at SNL. The last few months have been rather bleak for comedy.”
Hooks also played various public figures and celebrities on the sketch comedy show including Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan and Sinead O’Connor. Jon Lovitz, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live issued the following statement:
“This is incredibly tragἰc news about Jan. She was one of the funniest actresses to ever appear on Saturday Night Live. She and Phil Hartman created wonderful things when they collaborated. With Dana Carvey playing Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker on “Church Chat” the three of them made one of the greatest routines in SNL’s annals.”
He continued:
“She was a joy to deal with and a genuinely pleasant human being. I’m going to miss her a lot. Sending prayers of comfort and peace to her loved ones.
Kevin Nealon added:
“Jan Hooks was a very significant person in my life. Over the years we spent together as friends, as a couple and on Saturday Night Live, we experienced some truly unforgettable highs and lows. Her skill as a sketch actor floored me. I hope she realizes how much she is liked. What a trἀgedy this is.”
Kevin Nealon’s main cause of deἀth is unknown yet but TMZ reports said she is battling with a serἰous iIlness.
