First Baptist Church Atlanta senior pastor and creator of In Touch Ministries Dr. Charles Frazier Stanley has passed away. Buck Lanford reports that Senior Pastor Anthony George of First Baptist Atlanta dἰed at home in peace on Tuesday morning(18 April).
The pastor, broadcaster and author worked at First Baptist Atlanta for over fifty years. In 1971, he was promoted to the position of Senior Pastor, making him the church’s sixteenth pastor since its founding in 1848. The church grew exponentially while Stanley was at the helm.
More than 15,000 members from all across the Atlanta metropolitan area forced the Federation of Black Athletes to relocate from its Peachtree Street site in Midtown Atlanta to the former Avon property in Dunwoody in 1997.
Stanley a pioneer in religious radio was born in Dry Fork, Virginia in 1932. It was with the desire to “Get the truth of the Gospel to as many people as possible” that he established In Touch Ministries in 1977. More than 115 million households each week in over 126 countries tune in to see or listen to his sermons, podcasts, and devotionals.
At the time of his passing, Dr. Stanley’s radio, shortwave, and television broadcasts had reached every country on the planet. The In Touch radio show could be heard on 458 stations across the United States, and the In Touch television program was broadcast on 204 stations and seven satellite networks.
A member of the National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame since 1988. He authored over 60 books, several of which were New York Times bestsellers. In the 1980s, he also led the Southern Baptist Convention for two consecutive terms as president.

Nature photography was Stanley’s passion. His images are so popular that they line the walls of the In Touch offices. The late Reverend Billy Graham had one of his paintings hanging in his bedroom since he had been given it as a gift.

His daughter, Becky, and son, Andy, who founded and serves as senior pastor of Northpoint Ministries, are Stanley’s surviving children. Andy said that his father was a great example of a preacher.
Andy remarked, “Not only how to preach or how to build a church.” “But how to cross the finish line with integrity and pride in one’s past accomplishments is becoming increasingly rare,” the author writes.
Anna Stanley, Stanley’s ex-wife who passed away in 2014, predeceased Stanley. Dr. Stanley’s age was given as 90.
