Christina Applegate admits that watching her performance in Deἀd to Me was difficult due to her multiple sclerosis. In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, the 51-year-old woman, who found out she had MS in 2021, said that she had to wait months after season three came out before she could watch the Netflix comedy.
She explained –
“I don’t like seeing myself struggling. Also, I gained 40 lbs. because of inactivity and medications, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself.”
When the actress finally saw the show, she did it by herself and had to stop every so often because it hurt too much.
Applegate told the outlet –
“At some point I was able to distance myself from my own ego, and realize what a beautiful piece of television it was.”
“All the scenes I wasn’t in were so much fun to see and experience for the very first time.”
Applegate was nominated for several awards for her role as Jen Harding in Deἀd to Me, including her sixth SAG nomination for best performance by a female actor in a comedy series.
Do you know that Jamie Foxx has major health issues? The actor’s 29-year-old daughter, Corinne Foxx, wrote on Instagram on April 12 that her father had recently been sick and needed medical care:
But the actress said that the upcoming SAG Awards will probably be her last because she is still dealing with the effects of the sickness.
Applegate shared –
“It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.”
“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set, I don’t have that in me at this moment.”
Applegate was told she had multiple sclerosis in August 2021, when she was shooting the third season of her Netflix drama Deἀd to Me.
In December, she was a virtual guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she said that her job as an actor helps her forget about problems in her real life.
She stated at the time that acting helped her avoid coping with past breakups, trauma, deἀths, and breast cancer (as reported by PEOPLE) –
“I’ve probably been going through grief and trauma my whole life, and acting was the place that I got to go to not feel it, you know?”
She told Clarkson that going to work every day gave her the room to grieve for the first time. She did this by putting the feelings she had about getting MS into her character.
