Nearly three years after he vanished, a man’s car was discovered with a body inside. In the year 2020, middle school teacher Robert Heikka of Port Orange, Florida, vanished.
The police stated on Saturday that the missing educator’s car had been found around 10 miles outside of town. The Port Orange Police Department posted on Facebook that the case has been solved and that “our thoughts and prayers are with the Heikka family.”
A group of volunteers discovered a white 2012 Chevy Impala completely buried in a canal. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle while making a tight turn, plowing into a forest of trees 75 feet in height before plunging into the canal.
The water levels had to go down quite a bit for the automobile to become visible. Although the site was examined during previous investigations, it was not believed to be Heikka’s last resting place.
The volunteers were able to examine the vehicle’s VIN and so know for certain that it belonged to Heikka.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office thanked the private companies Sunshine State Sonar and Recon Dive Recovery for their assistance in locating the vehicle and verifying its tag. The body was discovered by rescue workers as they struggled to remove the car from the canal.
Although the authorities have not been able to confirm that the body is Heikka’s, they have informed his loved ones of the discovery. When the teacher failed to show up for work, colleagues were concerned and began searching for him the next day.
On October 25, 2020, he was seen visiting an ATM in the Canaveral Shores area. Heikka has been an educator in Florida since 1989; she has been at Creekside Middle School in Port Orange since 2002.
