One of S Club 7’s members, Paul Cattermole has passed away and the band has confirmed this news. On Friday, April 7 2023, the group revealed the shocking news in a statement:
“We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.”
They continued:
“He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.”
The reports said that The reasons for Paul’s deἀth remain unknown. Paul was captured on camera enjoying a stroll while appearing to be in good condition.
Cattermole, Jon Lee, Tina Barrett, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Hannah Spearritt and Rachel Stevens were the original members of S Club 7, an English pop group formed by Simon Fuller in 1998.
Their songs “S Club Party” and “Bring It All Back” were both number one in the United Kingdom and they’re single “Never Had a Dream Come True” reached number ten in the United States.
S Club 7’s 25th-anniversary reunion tour in which Paul was scheduled to participate was happening soon. Cattermole had dated Spearritt, a bandmate of his, twice before; the first time was from 2001 to 2005 and lasted five years; the second time was from 2015 to 2016 and lasted a few months.
The band was active from 1998 until 2003, but Cattermole left in the summer of 2002 to start a nu-metal band with his high school buddies. Unfortunately, the next year saw the dissolution of his new band as they were unable to secure a recording contract.
They released four studio albums and several hit songs throughout their five years as a group, including “Never Had A Dream Come True” and “Have You Ever.” After the group’s dissolution, McIntosh, O’Meara and Cattermole formed S Club Allstars (then known as S Club 3) to which Barrett was later added in 2014.
The band reunited for a limited period of time in 2014 to perform a medley of their most well-known songs for a BBC Children In Need appeal. In 2015, they reunited for the Bring It All Back tour, from which Cattermole said he had paid off his bankruptcy bills.
When asked about his financial struggles after leaving the band, he admitted to selling his Brit Award for best newcomer on eBay in 2018 for £66,000 because he had debts to pay.
Later when asked by NME about the sale of his Britannia statuette he explained that he had been unemployed since sustaining a back injury while performing in The Rocky Horror Picture Show in the United Kingdom.
Cattermole claimed that he had approached producers for appearances on reality shows like I’m a Celebrity, “Get Me Out of Here!” Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice, but had been rejected. He said:
“I’m not famous enough, apparently. I’ve been told this by many of these reality TV shows, they just don’t want me.”
