Sony unveiled a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Tuesday 4 April, just in time for the film’s June 2 release and I have no idea how to process it. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all of Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs including the animated Spider-Verse films are integrated into the greater universe.
Why? Because it proposes new Spider-Man-centric universe principles that will make you rethink everything in the MCU, and that’s why the latest Across the Spider-Verse trailer blew my mind. Before I go any further, I should warn you that this post contains potential spoilers, including information about the MCU as a whole.

The Mind-Boggling world of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has its own set of Rules
Around halfway through the teaser, we find out alongside Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) that a bunch of super-powered Spider-People is defending the galaxy.
They also appear to be seated in a “multiverse lobby” where they can freely communicate with one another. It means these Spider-Man and Spider-Woman iterations can go wherever they want in the Multiverse. In other words, they’re stronger than any form of Kang (Jonathan Majors). Iron Man, too (Robert Downey Jr.). Characters like The Watcher and the entire TVA, who can move throughout the multiverse at will, should not be forgotten.
Due to Marvel’s incorporation of the Sony Spider-Man universe, the events in Across the Spider-Verse must adhere to the canonical guidelines established by the MCU. But Sony’s mind-blowing reveal in this Spider-Verse 2 trailer casts doubt on the MCU’s stated ideas.
Keep in mind that the events of the Kang Dynasty and the Secret Wars will bring about the end of the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fate of the Multiverse depends on the Avengers defeating Kang. If this fantastic group of Spider-Man clones is waiting in the lobby of the multiverse to stop potentially catastrophic events, then why do we even need the Avengers?
