Officials in northern Brazil report that football fans severed the head of a referee after he fatally stabbed a player who refused to leave the field. During an amateur match in the state of Maranhao, an irate mob stormed the field, stoned Otavio da Silva to dea†h and then severed his head.
According to the reports, Mr. Silva was k!lled because he stabbed another player, Josenir dos Santos. One person has been apprehended and investigations into the murd*r are ongoing. The incident occurred on June 30, 2013 in the outlying community of Pio XII, but word of it is just now making its way to the public.
After Mr. Santos was ejected for refusing to leave the field, the referee and he engaged into a fist brawl, according to the state’s Public Safety Agency. Mr. Santos was fatally injured by Mr. Silva’s knife and later d!ed in transit to the hospital.
The department released a statement saying that the player’s friends and family rushed the field, stoned the referee to dea†h and then mutilated his body. A 27-year-old guy has been taken into custody by police in connection with this crime.
Police commander Valter Costa was quoted by the local media as saying:
“We will identify and hold accountable all those implicated. There is no such thing as a justifiable crime”.
