About a year has passed since it was announced that I Am Legend 2 was in production, but since then, there have been few updates, leaving fans to worry if the film has been canceled or if a release date in 2023 or 2024 has been established. What follows I Am Legend is what many people are calling Chapter 2 or Part 2.
What is the I am legend 2 Release Date?
The sequel to “I Am Legend” is still happening. Director Akiva Goldsman announced earlier this year (2023) that production on the sequel was still scheduled to begin at Warner Bros.
The sequel, Goldsman revealed via Deadline, will start a few decades later than the first and will have a little more adherence to the original text. He’s referring to Richard Matheson’s novel that served as the inspiration for the films.
Many assume that the delay is due to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, an event that spawned numerous hilarious internet memes. Michael B. Jordan will co-produce the film with Will Smith and feature in an unspecified role.
Smith will also reprise his role as Robert Neville. At this time, there is no set release date for I Am Legend 2. Even though a sequel is in the works, there has been no word that production has begun.

What did Goldsman Say about the Plot of I am legend 2?
Goldsman gave Deadline an extensive preview of the sequel during an interview. It will take place a long time after the events of the first part. He also admitted to being a diehard fan of The Last of Us, a game that celebrates the world’s beauty a few years after a catastrophic eeno.
He said:
“You know when the Earth reclaims its territory again? There’s something beautiful about the fact that man is not the main focus, This means we’re likely to see New York City much more taken over by nature than what we saw in some scenes in the first installment. The landscape will play a fundamental role in the plot.”
Nonetheless, the decision to base the sequel on the original film’s alternative conclusion has been made official. After finding a cure for these monsters, the previous ending had Neville immolate himself and a small group of them.
The other possibility is more true to Richard Matheson’s novel and has the cannibal leader claiming the virologist’s partner. He’s been taken prisoner in search of a cure. He sets him free and goes back to his companion after realizing that the aliens can talk to one other.
There, Robert learns that among the cannibals, he has risen to prominence and is now feared. And that’s going to be a major plot point in the sequel.
