Police have named 28-year-old Audrey Hale as the gunman who opened fire on students and faculty at Nashville, Tennessee’s Covenant School on Monday, March 27, 2023. They believe Hale may have been a former student there.
According to reports, that seem to be affiliated with Hale, she was a graphic designer and illustrator located in Nashville whose work included logos and branding designed to help convey a company’s story and provide a whimsical and light-hearted atmosphere.
A police representative confirmed to ABC News that Hale is female by birth, but also referred to a social media account associated with Hale where the pronouns he/him were used.
Norma Hale, Hale’s mom spoke briefly with ABC News and said:
“It is very, very difficult right now for the family, before asking for privacy. I think I lost my daughter today”.
A neighbor of the family told ABC News that Audrey Hale and her parents, who the neighbor described as extremely kind and quite religious lived together in their house.
Nossi College of Art & Design president and CEO Cyrus Vatandoost verified to ABC News that Hale had graduated from the institution in 2022. Hale was a great artist and a good student, according to Vatandoost.

What was the Motive of Audrey Hale in the Nashville sh00ting?
On Monday, March 27, 2023, Nashville police chief John Drake stated that investigators had spoken with Hale’s father and checked out a vehicle and an address associated with the 28-year-old. Police also found what appeared to be a study about the facilities and entrance points at Covenant, as well as writings that resembled a manifesto.
The investigators have not disclosed the information contained in the documents. Next-door neighbor Sean Brashears said Hale was a regular, friendly person. He said:
“If I had to imagine, Audrey’s parents are probably just as shocked as everybody in the neighborhood is…It just doesn’t seem real”.
“There’s nothing that would have led me to believe that she was capable of such a thing or that she or anybody in that family would have access to much less ever used, a gun”.
“They just don’t seem like the family that, like is around guns. They’re not talking about going to a gun range or they’re not going hunting.”
According to the police, Hale only had intentions on the Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school, but she also had plans to assault another, as yet unnamed, institution. The main motive of Audrey Hale is not yet confirmed by the authorities.
