Former reptilian “rock star” Ben Renick was discovered dead in June of 2017. At first, investigators thought one of his beloved serpents had k!lled him, but then they determined the true culprit was much more sinister. Please read on so that we may gain insight into his situation.
Mysterious Dea†h of Renick Blackwell Examined in Court
At his exotic snake breeding farm in New Florence, Missouri in 2017, 29-year-old Renick was discovered laying in a pool of bl00d. Sam Renick, Ben’s brother, claims that he was called to the scene by Ben’s wife Lynlee after she discovered the body and dialed 911.
Sam says he thought his brother Ben had been attacked by a snake because the latter’s skull was crushed and he found two puncture wounds on his arm.
Since Renick’s snake collection was valued at over a million dollars, police initially suspected a robbery as the motive. But there weren’t any missing snakes, so that explanation was thrown out.
As the spa manager, Ashley Shaw testified against Lynlee at her and Michael’s trial for Ben’s murd*r. Ashley told the court that her husband’s spa owner had previously tried to kill him by poisoning his drink with a large number of drugs.

Coroner Confirms Murd*r of Renick Blackwell
Before January 2020, police had no confirmed leads when Brandon Blackwell, Lynlee’s ex-husband and the father of their first child, provided information. Around three years ago, Brandon informed authorities of Lynlee’s plans to kill Ben.
But, after an autopsy was performed on Renick’s body, Coroner Colbert concluded that he had been murd*red. Eight bullets had been fired at Renick and a spent casing was located near his body.
Colbert said:
“For some reason, somebody just really didn’t like Mr. Renick because of the amount of damage that was inflicted upon him. And, obviously from bullet holes in the floor. This was something that was not just a random act.”
Lynlee and her now ex-boyfriend, Michael Humphrey, faced charges of first-degree murd*r and armed criminal action years after the murd*r was committed.
According to ABC17, prosecutors used Facebook interactions between Lynlee and Renick to show that he had challenged her about her failing business.
Messages between the couple also revealed that he was anticipating receiving a sizable sum of money from his business, and Lynlee confronted Renick about his s*xual abuse of her.
Lynlee’s conviction for second-degree murd*r and armed criminal action was handed down on December 9, 2021. Michael Humphrey’s conviction was lowered from first-degree to second-degree murd*r.
Note: The motive of the murd*r is still unknown. However, the prosecution was able to present the jury with sufficient evidence in order to obtain the conviction. Leave a comment below if you have any additional information regarding this case.
