Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth have decided to end their relationship. The actress and her spouse Jim Toth, have decided to separate after 12 years of marriage. On Friday, March 24, 2023, the actress and producer announced the news on her verified Instagram account, along with a statement from both herself and Toth.
The statement reads, “We have some personal news to share… It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce”.

Ten-year-old Tennessee James is the couple’s son. They are best friends and their decision was made with mutual respect. They are totally dedicated to working together as co-parents. They care deeply about their whole family and want to make this transition as easy as possible for everyone.
After announcing their engagement in December 2010, Witherspoon and Toth tied the knot in a low-key ceremony on her ranch in Ojai, California, in March 2011.
They have a 10-year-old son named Tennessee James, and Witherspoon also has a 23-year-old daughter named Ava and a 19-year-old son named Deacon from a previous relationship with actor Ryan Phillippe.
To celebrate his birthday in July, the Big Little Lies star posted a photo of herself with Toth. In the Instagram caption, she wished her husband a Happy Birthday.

Last year, on their 11th wedding anniversary, she posted a message to Instagram reading, “All my best, JT! An exciting and joyful 11 years together. I can’t believe I get to spend my life with you”.

In an interview with ELLE published in 2012, Witherspoon recalls meeting Toth for the first time at a friend’s house shortly after ending her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. She praised him as a “very kind person” for saving her from an awkward circumstance.
She said:
“It happened out of the blue, This really drunk guy was hitting on me, making such an idiot of himself, yelling at me. He was, like slurring, scowling, pointing finger in her face. You don’t know me. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I know. I don’t know you!”.
“Jim came over and said, Please excuse my friend. He’s just broken up with someone. Jim was a really good friend, pulling him out of that situation. That’s just kind of who he is a really good person.”
In 2016, not long after celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary, the actress said about her husband’s many endearing features. She said
“He’s an incredible man, a wonderful organizer, a great leader. He knows how to get people together. He’s very patient and funny with the kids. And he really encourages them to see the humor in life.”
