Marissa Jackson is the Mayor’s Office of Foreign Affairs General Counsel. For the Mayor’s Office of Foreign Affairs and its partners and clients, she oversees a wide variety of legal and compliance issues, from those pertaining to land use and real estate to those focusing on diplomatic immunities.
Prior to her time in the Mayor’s Office, Marissa taught as an Acting Assistant Professor of Lawyering at the New York University School of Law, where she wrote extensively on the evolution and application of human rights law and legal norms.
Marissa received the 2015 Martin Luther King Faculty Prize at New York University for her outstanding contributions to the fields of education, leadership, and social justice. Previously, Marissa worked as a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell and clerked for two federal judges: Sterling Johnson, Jr., of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and Damon Keith, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
In addition to advocating for the passage of Senegal’s Gender Parity Act in 2010, Marissa developed a human rights and education campaign in the country’s capital city of Dakar. Marissa earned her BA in liberal arts from Northwestern University, her JD from Columbia Law School, and her LL.M. in human rights law from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Her family consists of her husband, Yerim, their son, Babacar, and their cat, Marley; all of them reside in the Bronx. She spends her summers attending concerts in Central and Prospect Parks and taking dance workshops at the Alvin Ailey Extension.
