Wednesday’s leading star Jenna Ortega reportedly wants to remain part of the Tim Burton clan. A part in Beetlejuice 2 is in the actor’s sights. Warner Bros., the studio responsible for the film declined to provide an official statement.
Sources indicate that Tim Burton who directed the 1988 film starring Michael Keaton will return to the director’s chair for the sequel. Shooting is scheduled to take place in London in late May or early June but the production budget has not yet been agreed upon, leading to some back and forth.

In the event of an agreement, Ortega would reportedly take on the role of Lydia, Winona Ryder’s character from the original. The 1989 Academy Award for Best Makeup went to the original picture which also starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan and Catherine O’Hara and made $80 million on a budget of $15 million.

Several authors have worked on the sequel at different times and Burton has openly wavered on whether or not he will be involved in the project. Ortega, who most recently acted in Wednesday on Netflix directed by Burton (who also directed Beetlejuice) has revealed she had “constant dreams” about the film when she was younger.
The performer got her start playing supporting roles in films like You and Yes Day before landing the role of Young Jane on the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She had lead roles in both the 2017 Scream remake and the 2016 horror smash X.
Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s been quite an insane experience working with Burton” in anticipation of the premiere on Wednesday. Aside from being a legend in his own right, the legendary filmmaker I’ve had the pleasure of working with is also one of the nicest and most meticulous directors I’ve ever had the pleasure of collaborating with.
