Takeshi Obata created a plethora of fictional characters for the Death Note manga and Tsugumi Ohba came up with the plots they were involved in. Light Yagami, the protagonist finds a supernatural notebook that gives him the power to kill anyone he names in its pages.

The manga, the anime and the live-action film and drama all have some character details that differ from one another. These are the main death note characters.

Light Yagami

The show’s protagonist is named Light Yagami, Yagami Raito. Finding out that the Death Note can be used to kill a person simply by committing their name and likeness to memory, he decides to use it to rid the world of criminals.

As the show progresses, he begins to believe he is God and seeks absolute power over the world he has created. The Japanese public eventually begins to refer to his murders as “Kira” incidents.

Kira has been killing criminals and hostages for a few days when “L” the best detective in the world despite being an absurd guy, is hired to track him down and give him what for.

L

One of the series’ primary antagonists, L Lawliet or simply L is the world’s greatest detective. He volunteers to find Kira and put him in jail. The fact that he rarely wears shoes stands out the most about him. People’s trust in him as L is shaken by his unkempt appearance and poor social skills.

The only person who can get in touch with him directly is his manager, Watari; he prefers to be left alone. Almost immediately, L suspects that Light is Kira, but after his death, he is unable to confirm his suspicions with anyone else.

Ryuk

Ryuk

Ryuk is a bored Shinigami who for entertainment’s sake drops a Death Note, a notebook that grants its possessor the power to kill anyone simply by knowing their name or face into the human world. Light Yagami, a young genius takes it and tries to use it to create and rule a world that is cleansed of evil as God.

Misa Amane

Misa Amane is a well-known Japanese pop star famous for her gothic sense of style, hyperactive nature and undying love for Light, the man responsible for the deaths of her parents. As the second Kira and holder of the Death Note, she possesses the Shinigami Eyes making it possible for her to know the name and lifespan of nearly anyone.

There is one thing she can’t do, though: see the owners of Death Notes’ future ages. She does a lot of different things for her idol career including acting, singing and modeling.

Near

After L’s untimely demise, the young detective Near whose given name is Nate River takes over. He is the leader of a group formed specifically to apprehend Kira, the SPK (Special Provision for Kira). He is a mild-mannered man with a wicked tongue and he dresses in pastels and wears white hair.

He’s always fiddling around with something, be it a finger puppet or a Lego minifigure to demonstrate a point. The video shows him filling in the blanks of a puzzle.

Mello

As he matures, Mello whose given name is Mihael Keehl vies with Near for the position of L’s successor. However, after L passes away, he relinquishes his position to Near and goes off to criminally pursue Kira, eventually becoming a member of the American Mafia.

He does almost everything in an effort to prove himself better than Near. He wears flashy clothes always carries a chocolate bar and has blond hair.

Teru Mikami

In addition to being a criminal prosecutor and ardent Kira supporter, Teru Mikami is also the fourth Kira. Light chooses Mikami on pure instinct when he needs a new Kira proxy to protect his anonymity. Mikami’s strong sense of justice stems from his early years, but years of bullying and trauma have warped his perspective.

For reasons that aren’t entirely clear, Mikami wants to exact vengeance on anyone he deems evil which includes much to Light’s chagrin, people who aren’t contributing to society and have made amends with criminals like Kira. While writing in the Death Note, Mikami keeps repeating to himself, “delete”.

The protagonist of Death Note: Special One Shot is Minoru Tanaka the new owner of the Death Note. After sending Ryuk out to inform Sakura TV of his plans, Near gives the Death Note its own hashtag and receives bids from governments around the world including one from the United States that is worth ten trillion dollars.

All the while authorities are searching for Minoru, whom Near calls “A-Kira” and trying to apprehend him. But at that time, the Shinigami King gets so worked up about the prospect of selling the Note that he adds a new rule to it.

After the purchase price of the Note is distributed equally among the savings accounts of all Japanese citizens aged 60 and older, the new rule is revealed to be that anyone involved in the purchase or sale of the Death Note will be killed upon fulfillment of the deal.

Minoru tries to cash in the note and is killed shortly afterward, but the US president refuses to accept ownership of it and instead promises to publicly bluff about having it.
