Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 Recap: The Apostate”

Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 The Apostate

The last time we saw the Mandalorian, he was… pause for a second, where were we when the Mandalorian disappeared? That’s not as simple of a question as it may seem.

In the Season 2 finale of “The Mandalorian,” the last time we saw intergalactic bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), he was saying farewell to his little pal Grogu, a.k.a. “Baby Yoda,” before the toddler went off to learn with the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

But if you caught the last episodes of “The Book of Boba Fett,” you know that Din and Grogu got back together to aid their Tatooine friends in defeating a terrible criminal group.

Well, I hope those who only understand “Mandalorian” weren’t too bewildered by the appearance of Grogu’s cute tiny head in the rear of Din’s new Naboo N-1 starfighter at the end of this week’s exciting opening sequence. The most important thing is that the youngster is back.

You should also be aware of this, though. Din also reconciled with his Mandalorian people in “The Book of Boba Fett,” where he admitted to having removed his helmet in front of Grogu. Since then, he has been branded an apostate because of this.

For readmission, he must visit Mandalore, his native planet, and wash in the mineral springs there. So what is the issue here? Mandalore has been in the throes of civil conflict and the dying of the Empire for years, rendering much of the planet unusable.

How Did The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 Start?

Mandalorian Season 3

A pounding noise can be heard at the beginning of the episode. A new, aesthetically pleasing helmet is constructed by their leader, the Armorer, and sent to a beach where a child will see the sun for the last time before dying.

The youngling says, “The words of the Creed shall be forever inscribed in my heart,” but before they can finish the pledge to always wear their helmet, they are rudely interrupted by a massive space alligator. Whoa, Star Wars!

This sets in motion a fierce conflict above and below the crashing waves. A hero in the form of Mando appears at the last minute to right the ship. Thank you so much, and good luck!

Are you thankful to the Armorer? The fact that Mando, whose true name is Din Djarin, took off his helmet is still all she can talk about.

Mando provides some hope with a gemstone that may be a relic of their home planet, but she argues that redemption is unattainable because the mines of Mandalore were destroyed by the Empire. If our hero can show that Mandalore is no longer poisoned, the Armorer seems willing to accept him back into the fold. For my money, that sums up an adventure!
