Anthony Ciccone, Madonna’s older brother, has passed away at the age of 66, a family source has confirmed. One of the star’s seven siblings, Ciccone reportedly passed away on 25 Feb 2023. After years of drunkenness and homelessness, including a stint living beneath a bridge, he was finally able to get sober.
His brother-in-law, Joe Henry, posted a black-and-white photo of him and the news that he had “exited this earthly plane” on Instagram.
“I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone,” writes singer-songwriter Henry, who is married to Madonna’s sister Melanie Ciccone.
The details surrounding his untimely demise remain sketchy. Although the singer has yet to address Ciccone’s death in public, Madonna did show her condolences by liking Joe Henry’s Instagram post in which he broke the sad news.
Madonna and her brother Anthony and their other siblings grew raised in the city of Detroit, Michigan. She left Michigan for New York in 1978 to pursue a career in dance and music, but Ciccone remained in the Great Lakes State.
Madonna also posted a story on her Instagram about her older brother Anthony Ciccone’s Death:

They were very little when their mother passed away from breast cancer in 1963. Brother-in-law A “complex character,” as Henry describes Ciccone as in his Instagram post. We fought as brothers do, and God knows there were times when it was intense.
“But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on. But trouble fades; and family remains – with hands reached across the table. Farewell, then, brother Anthony.
“I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you. At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision.”
Ciccone grew apart from his family as he resented them for allegedly not caring about him and lashed out at them.
“I’m a zero in their eyes – a non-person. I’m an embarrassment,” he told the Daily Mail in 2011.
“If I died of hypothermia, my loved ones probably wouldn’t find out or care for at least six months.”
There were reports in 2017 that he had finished a rehabilitation program and was back in touch with his family.
