Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, claims he and his family have received death threats due to the team’s recent performance. On Friday, Potter revealed that he had been harassed by an unknown email address.
After being accused of not caring for the club because of his cool manner in the face of adversity, Potter, who has previously declared he has the hardest job in sports, spoke of the personal toll recent months have taken on him.
Many believe I don’t give a damn about anything, but what exactly are they basing that assumption on? He asked the media, “How do you know?” before Chelsea’s Sunday Premier League match against Tottenham. You could inquire with my relatives as to how they and I are doing.
Nothing about it has been enjoyable. I get that when the team is losing, the fans get frustrated and want to go home. But trust me, the last three to four months of my life have been quite a standard fare.
Some not-very-good emails have been sent to me, and the sender expresses a desire for my death as well as the death of my children. Obviously, that’s not something anyone wants to hear. What do you anticipate in the end if you’ve been asked whether you’re under pressure by the media for four months straight because they need to sell stuff?
Even after massive expenditure in the last two transfer windows, Chelsea has only won two of its last 14 games. They are now 10th out of 20 teams in the Premier League. Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel, who was let go in September, on the staff. Potter knew that only victories could change people’s minds, yet he refused to back down in the face of criticism.

There are a lot of people who have it rough, he remarked. To paraphrase, no one really wants to worry about Premier League managers. Life isn’t always equitable. Not that I’m complaining or anything.
