Big John has a number of near-death experiences in the first nine episodes of Outer Banks season 3, but he manages to pull through each one. This includes his encounter with some dangerous smugglers as well as his multiple run-ins with Carlos Singh’s men.

Big John, who seemed to have as many chances at survival as a cat, tragically passes away in the season’s finale as a result of a surprising chain of events. Big John, Sarah and John B are reunited in the finale after the Pogues travel to South America and help Big John escape from the house Singh has been holding him captive at.

After reuniting with John B. and Sarah, the three set out to find El Dorado and arrive at the dig site by night. When night falls, the gnomon illuminates revealing a clue meant to direct the party in the right direction in search of El Dorado.

But at least this time, John B can say goodbye to his father and give him a proper funeral with his friends by his side. We didn’t think it was likely that John B would be killed off after Outer Banks was renewed for a fourth season.

There were a few hairy moments in Outer Banks season 3. In many of the episodes, John B stares death in the face. He is attacked by two smugglers in Episode 4 and Singh and his men capture him in Episode 6.

In fact, John B is taken out into a field during that episode and nearly dies but he manages to escape. When John B’s house was burned down with the Pogues still inside that was the scariest moment for us.
