Inspired by Naughty Dog’s 2013 video game of the same name, “The Last of Us” depicts a world devastated by a fungal outbreak. Because of Cordyceps infection, over 60% of the world’s population has perished or mutated into zombie-like creatures.
The main character Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) is a hardened survivor who is tasked with delivering Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl who is immune to the epidemic, to the individuals who may be able to manufacture vaccines. They meet many different people, both infected and uninfected, on their journey across the United States. One such character is Maria, played by Rutina Miller.

Wesley reflected on the moment in which Maria trims Ellie’s hair and highlighted the significance of that encounter in light of Maria’s future motherhood. The actress explained that:
“When you are going to be a mother at some point, I think she just gravitates towards Ellie in that motherly way without her really even knowing she’s doing it.”
She has no choice but to follow her gut, so to speak. Aside from that, I believe that Ellie challenges Maria in a way that she secretly enjoys.
